WHAT IS E-PAPER?
What Exactly Is E-Paper?
E-Paper, also known as electronic paper or E Ink, is a display technology that reflects ambient light, much like printed paper. Unlike an LCD, which uses a backlight to produce light, e-paper reflects the light around it. This gives it a natural, paper-like appearance with minimal glare.
E-Paper only needs power when the display is being updated. Once the content is displayed, it requires zero power to keep it there.
This is possible because of a property called biostability, sometimes referred to as a memory effect. The image remains on the display even when the power is turned off or the device is disconnected. This is one of the key differences between E-Paper and conventional displays.

Where E-Paper Works Best
E-paper isn't designed for every application. It works especially well for static information that changes from time to time.
- Name badges, reception displays, shelf labels, POP displays, information signs, and other static information that changes occasionally
- Locations where access to power is difficult
- Situations where you want to eliminate printing and repeatedly producing paper materials
- Video, animation, or other moving content
- Real-time information that needs to update every second
- Applications requiring the color range or smooth gradients of an LCD. EZ Sign is available in 2-color (black & white) and 4-color (black, white, red & yellow) models.
If you're expecting a screen that works like a TV or LCD monitor, e-paper may not be the right fit. Think of it as paper that you can update again and again—without plugging it in.

Q. Does the display disappear when the power is turned off?
No. Once the content has been displayed, it remains visible even when the device is disconnected or has no power.
Q. Does EZ Sign use power all the time?
No. The display uses zero power while showing an image. Power is only required when updating the display, and the update is powered through NFC from your smartphone. No battery is required.
Q. Can I see E-Paper in the dark?
Like printed paper, e-paper relies on ambient light to be visible. It is easy to read in a well-lit environment, but can be difficult to see in darkness. EZ Sign does not have a built-in backlight.
