E-Paper 101: Three Key Features
EZ Sign® uses E-Paper (not LCD). Keep these three differences in mind:
📄 Paper-like Display
Reflects ambient light like real paper. Easy on the eyes in bright light, but no backlight means it cannot be read in the dark.
🔋 Zero Power to Display
Images stay on screen even when powered off. NFC models have no battery; power comes directly from your phone during updates.
🎞️ No Video / Animation
Slow refresh rates mean it cannot play video. It is built strictly to display still images, text, and QR codes continuously.

- Using a Windows PC to update? Requires a separate NFC reader (Recommended: Sony RC-S300).
- Can you remove your phone case? Thick or magnetic cases block NFC signals. Remove cases during updates and avoid metal surfaces.
- Is your location within indoor dust/water limits? IP65 rated (dust/water resistant), but submersion is not covered. Check specs for temperature limits.
- Are you trying to play video? EZ Sign cannot play video or animations. Use it exclusively for still images, text, and QR codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which model sells more, 2-Color or 4-Color?
It depends. 4-Color is chosen for visible POPs and name tags, while 2-Color is chosen for warehouses needing daily updates. Update speed (2-3s vs. 30s) is the key deciding factor.
Is there a 2-Color option for the 2.13-inch model?
No, the 2.13-inch is 4-Color only. Choose 2.9" or 4.2" if you require 2-Color (black/white).
What happens to the display when power is cut?
E-Paper requires zero power to maintain images, so the display stays visible indefinitely without a battery.
Updates are failing. What should I do?
