When we launched EZ Sign NFC on Makuake, we expected technical questions from customers.

After all, we spent years developing a battery-free, ultra-thin e-paper display that updates instantly using a smartphone's NFC.
But instead of specs, people asked for something much simpler:
"What is it? And what do I actually use it for?"
That single question taught us our biggest lesson.
During the development stage, we thought building the hardware would be the hardest part.
It wasn't.
The real challenge was translation and education, navigating people to understand how this "silent, thin slate" fits into their actual business scenes and everyday lives.
Shifting from Specs to Scenes
We quickly realized that listing technical specs wasn't enough to spark imagination.
So, we stopped leading with terms like "bistable e-paper."
Instead, we started showing real-world, concrete applications:

- For Personal Space: 🖼️ Elegant desk photo frames, task reminders, and home accents.
- For Business Scenes: 🏢 Clean reception welcome signs, employee ID badges, and cashless payment QR codes.
This simple shift in communication changed everything.
By connecting technology to daily scenarios, we left just enough "creative margin" for users to imagine their own possibilities.
When Users Become Inventors
The most rewarding part of the campaign was watching our backers take ownership of the product. They began inventing use cases we had never even imagined.

It was the moment to realize the true potential of EZ Sign.
By the end of the campaign, 639 backers had helped us reach 774% of our funding goal (over ¥2.3 Million JPY).
But the biggest success wasn't the numbers.
